
David Wayman is a rare musical talent. Born and bred in Melbourne, Australia, David has worked as a songwriter, performing artist, lyricist, lecturer in song writing, music teacher, and CD producer. He is also a MC and has even appeared in small parts in film and television.
A skilled craftsman, Dave has traversed many styles. His extensive catalogue includes writing for cabaret acts, radio and TV ads, folk acts, poetry bands, country singers, swing jazz groups, tango bands, children and adult musicals and rock groups.
Dave began playing and writing for bands in the 1970’s, including popular acts Poor Tom's Poetry Band and Yasmin and the Tea Leaves.
The 1980’s spawned a new collaboration with Terry Bradford and Steve Dillon. Although writing predominantly for pop rock bands, Steve and Dave also produced a full-scale musical called Atlantis. Other theatre highlights include the duo Cool Water with Anthony Leonard, and a children’s musical called The Detectives.
In 1995, Terry and Dave wrote and produced songs for acclaimed act, Black Taxi. Their first CD Taken For a Ride featured the song Traffic Jam which became the most played song of 1996 across Australia on the ABC network. The album was also nominated for an ARIA Award for best light contemporary record and was voted one of the top 10 jazz CDs of the year. The single Shoes from the second Black Taxi CD Saturday Street featured on the ABC ‘most played’ CD of 1998.
Dave Wayman continues to collaborate on a variety of projects with writers such as Sarah Cowan, Josephine Fisher (Melbourne Comedy festival), Paul Wookey, country singer Rachael Kennedy, renowned guitarist Shannon Bourne's (debut CD), Annie Kennedy (debut CD Life After Chocolate) and accordionist Phil Carroll for the band, Dark Waters Tango.
